About Us

Exeter Entrepreneurs started in 2008, and has been growing ever since. This year is going to be a fantastic year, and below are just a few of the plans we have as a society.

What is Exeter Entrepreneurs?

Exeter Entrepreneurs is the University of Exeter's society for people that are business minded with an interest in entrepreneurial skills. It is quite separate from the Business and Economics society (BESoc) however over the next year we will be working with BESoc and Marketing and Management (M&M) to allow you to network with some of the most business minded people at the university.

One of our main goals is to bring you a number of events, that will allow you to learn more about business and how you yourself can begin to think about starting a business. We will also be hosting a number of events for people who may already have established a business, and these events will also allow you to network with some of the different businesses or business minded people at the university.

Thus we established this website, so that you can keep up to date with all the events we will be holding, as well as feel a part of the Entrepreneurs community. We have outlined some of the questions you may ask when considering joining the Entrepreneurs society, and the answers are below, however if you do have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact one of our committee either in the street, or by e-mail. You can contact us by e-mail on our contact page, or contact the President directly by filling out the query form on the contact page.

What are you getting for your money?

Next year the membership fee for Exeter Entrepreneurs will be priced at £10. We will also be offering you the opportunity to sign up in person, either by coming to an event and paying either a commitee member or representative.

Representatives are working to hard to build the society this year, and thus, if you do pay in person and you have liked the Facebook page, we will offer a 50% discount, thus the total cost is only £5

Exactly what does our membership give to you, and why should you join?

We have already had huge success with out joint social with BESoc, M&M and 4 other societies. We will continue to bring these events, as well as other opportunities such as our 4 flagship events which are all listed below.

Not only this but we will be holding a number of other events, working with Ignite, and bringing speakers to the university such as Doug Richard, and other high profile entrepreneurs.

Social Side of Exeter Entrepreneurs

In previous years there has been limited social aspect to the society. That is why this year, we will be holding a social every 2 weeks, for our members to come and network, have a good time and most of all enjoy themselves. Exeter Entrepreneurs wants to promote the social side just as much as the business part of the society, and therefore we want to invite all past members, prospective members and current members to come to our first social on the 17th September 2013, starting in Cornwall House, moving to the RAM and the continuing onto a night out at either Timepiece or Exeter Castle, you decide where we go! There will be a surprise for one lucky person at one of the venue's.

Not only this but we will be holding an invasion trip with our good friends BESoc to Amsterdam, for everyone to network, have a good time and make the most out of a weekend away from the university, as well as an Invasion trip to Bristol in late November.

Flagship Events for Exeter Entrepreneurs

The Maskell Pitching Competition for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

This year we will be dedicating our Pitching competition to William Maskell, who was fantastic member in our society, and someone that we want to remember within the society. This was one of William's ideas, and after being worked on with our President, decided it would be a fantastic opportunity to our members. This pitching competition gives aspiring entrepreneurs a fantastic opportunity to win up to £500 from the society, as well as pitch in front of some influential entrepreneurs and recieve feedback on not only their pitch but also their idea.

EbayTRADE

EbayTRADE has always been refered to as RAGTraders, but this year we wanted to refresh the event. As it is always a hugely popular event, we decided it would be a great way to create networking as well as allow our members to have a great time. We give an object to every competitor, and you 'trade' its as many times as you can to increase its value. After the allotted time period (2 Weeks) we will then take your final product, and sell it on Ebay. But here's the best bit. You keep 90% of the profit that the product makes on Ebay, and the final 10% goes to our society to allow us to keep more competitions coming.

Exeter Apprentice

Exeter Apprentice is held every year. This year we will be increasing the amount given to each business to £2000, and running it over a 2-month period. All businesses will be worked with before the event starts, to allow them to be business pitch ready, so that they are able to start as soon as we say go, and create revenue off the creation of their idea. Over a 6 month period, we will take 20% profit, to recoperate the £2000, and after that, the society will work to keep your business flowing smoothly. This is one of our most successful, and recognised events, and we hope with the increased investment this year, it provides a huge opporunity for aspiring entrepreneurs.

SEED - Student Enterprise and Entrepreneur Day

This year SEED is being hosted in London, with Exeter, Durham, LSE and Oxford, to provide 30 universities and up to 2000 people the opportunity to come to one of Europes largest Student Entrepreneur events. This will be one of the best events of the year, and we will be working closely with a number of companies to make this possible. Speakers will be invited, along with student businesses to sell products/services for £85 for the day, and we will also be working with Angels Den to provide one business up to £800 worth of advice, to get themselves investment ready. Finally, we will finish with a networking event, including speed networking.
